This course is recommended for certified Journeymen who want to earn CEUs to maintain their journeyman certification, or for ETs who have completed Get Wired! 100, 200, and 300 series. This course is NOT recommended for ETs who have not taken the first three years of Get Wired! courses.
This 16-hour course is based on Mike Holt’s “Illustrated Guide to Understanding NEC Requirements for Solar Photovoltaic Systems, based on the 2014 NEC” textbook and DVDs. Mike Holt’s presentation style is informative, practical, useful, informal, and applicable. The textbook contains hundreds of full-color illustrations to help the student see the safety requirements of the National Electrical Code in practical use, as they apply to today’s electrical installations. Students are tested with a final exam and must pass with an average score of 70% or better in order to receive credit.
Understanding NEC Requirements for Solar Photovoltaic Systems Home Study Course addresses possible conflicts or confusing NEC requirements, tips on proper electrical installations, and warnings of dangers related to improper electrical installations. Mike can’t eliminate confusing, conflicting, or controversial Code requirements, but he puts them into sharper focus to help the student understand their intended purposes. In addition to covering Article 690 of the 2014 NEC, Mike covers the installation of electric power production sources operating in parallel with a primary source(s) of electricity. The student will learn how to cross reference the code requirements to understand how they relate to one another.
Topics in this course are covered in relation to the 2014 Edition of the National Electric Code (NEC) requirements. A 2014 NEC Code Book is required when taking this course. You may utilize one of the suggested resources in the textbook list located in the forms and resources section of the WECA website or any other sources to order the NEC
