2014 NEC Changes & Grounding vs. Bonding Home Study Course (32 hour course)

Recommended Prerequisite for Electrician Trainees: GET WIRED! 100 Series

Save time and money in commuting costs! Sign up for the “2014 NEC Changes & Grounding vs. Bonding Home Study” course. No matter where you live you can take this 32-hour course from the comfort of your own home or office.

The courses are DVD-based self-paced instruction programs. For students who do not like to read extensively, the DVD programs are ideal since they include audio and video instruction. The DVDs feature a classroom setting and or panel discussions and follow along with the textbooks. After watching the DVDs and reading the textbooks, students are tested with final exams and must pass with an average score of 70% or better in order to receive credit for their CE hours.

This 32-hour course is based on Mike Holt’s “Illustrated Guide - Changes to the NEC 2014” and “Understanding the NEC Requirements for Grounding versus Bonding” textbooks, which are loaded with colorful illustrations and graphics.

2014 Code Changes program highlights the most important changes students need to know for the new Code Cycle.

Part 1 covers Articles 100 to 376. Subjects include:
  • General Requirements
  • Wiring and Protection
  • Grounding vs. Bonding
  • Wiring Methods and Materials

Part 2 covers Articles 404 to 830 and includes the following important topics:
  • Equipment for General Use
  • Special Occupancies
  • Special Equipment
  • Special Conditions
  • Communications Systems

Grounding versus Bonding program gives students an excellent working knowledge of Article 250 of the National Electrical Code. You learn the purpose of grounding - its operation and its impact on electromagnetic fields, system grounding vs. circuit grounding, location of grounding connection, enclosure grounding and much more. Electrical Theory has been applied to this “difficult to understand” Article, making the concepts easier to understand. Additionally, the graphics are color-coded so you can easily differentiate between grounding and bonding. Subjects include:
  • Circuit and System Grounding
  • Grounding Electrode System and Grounding Electrode Conductor
  • Enclosure
  • Raceway
  • Service Cable Grounding
  • Bonding
  • Methods of Equipment Grounding
  • Direct-Current Systems
  • Grounding of Systems and Circuits

Tuition for the course includes “Mike Holt’s Illustrated Guide - Changes to the NEC 2014” and “Understanding the NEC Requirements for Grounding versus Bonding” textbooks.

Topics in this course are covered in relation to the 2014 Edition of the National Electric Code (NEC) requirements. A 2014 NEC Code Book is required when taking this course. You may utilize one of the suggested resources in the textbook list located in the forms and resources section of the WECA website or any other sources to order the NEC.

To receive credit for this course you must:
  • Complete this course within 90 days.
  • Complete the entire course which includes 2014 NEC Changes Part 1 & Part 2 Exams and Grounding vs. Bonding Exam. No partial credit will be given.
