We were pleased to receive a record number of scholarship applications this year, and are continually inspired by applicants' talent and determination. This year, WECEF focused its scholarship opportunities on students enrolled in WECA’s Electrician Trainee (ET) Program.

Each annual WECEF scholarship round helps support students in continuing their education with WECA. This year, awardees received up to $1,000 each in monetary awards towards furthering their education, and/or tuition to cover two future classes in WECA's Electrician Trainee Program Certificate Path.

Leanne Sipes, Senior Accountant, says "This year's applications yielded many thoughtful responses. We were pleased to receive applications from the employees of members and non-members alike. It was also great to see that many applicants espoused the importance of safety in the workplace, stating that their approach to safety was to 'continually train on it and embed it into everyone's psyche."

Terry Seabury, Executive Director and CEO, also notes that many applications touched upon common themes in response to questions posed during the application process, such as "What does it take to be an effective leader?" and "Ideas to improve the work environment?" The most common responses to these questions were: leading by example, listening and communicating effectively, remaining calm in the face of challenges, highlighting and sharing everyone's strengths and talents, demonstrating honesty and sincerity, and practicing proper planning and execution to ensure safety on the jobsite. "Many applicants also demonstrated a desire to contribute to improving jobsite and team communication," said Terry.

Congratulations, everyone!
