Commercial Battery Energy Storage Systems (16 hour course)

Recommended Prerequisites: This course is suitable for journeyworkers and advanced electrician trainees. Prerequisites include suggested completion of the GetWired 100 and 200 series courses or equivalent experience.

This course is part of WECA's Comprehensive BESS: Residential and Commercial Energy Storage Systems (32 hour) course, which is also an elective in the WECA Electrician Trainee Certificate Path.

This self-paced intermediate electrical course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of Commercial Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). While there are many Energy Storage Systems (ESS), such as pumped hydropower, fuel cells, and supercapacitors to name a few, this course will focus on rechargeable batteries, specifically Lithium-Ion. We will cover BESS for commercial and industrial applications and include basic information on grid storage.

Learning Objectives for this course:
  • You will be able to identify the equipment that is required for a Commercial/Industrial (CI) BESS.
  • You will be able to recall safety procedures applicable to installing and commissioning a BESS.
  • You will be able to explain National Electrical Code requirements applicable to a BESS.
  • You will be able describe correct wiring and pre-commissioning procedures for a BESS.

All course hours must be completed within 90 days of purchase to receive credit. You will not be notified when your self-paced course is about to expire, and it is your responsibility to keep track of your course expiration/due date. The course tuition is not refundable or transferable.

A 2020 NEC book is required for this course.
