Blueprint Reading Part 1 (GET WIRED! 301 Commercial): Electrical Work for Commercial Construction from the Ground Up, Part 1

Recommended Prerequisite for Electrician Trainees: GET WIRED! 100 & 200 Series

Coordinate cut sheets, submittals, the NEC and more with blueprints to plan electrical installation for commercial construction.

This course is also the capstone course, Commercial Electrical Blueprint Reading, in the Project Engineer to Project Manager (PE to PM) Program.

This course includes a complimentary mobile tablet, yours to keep, as part of course tuition. The tablet is pre-loaded with the digital blueprint set and student resource booklet used in this course.

GET WIRED! 301 and 302 take students through construction of a commercial building from underground work through construction and finish work. Students will use genuine construction plans (digital blueprints on a mobile tablet) and related documents to learn how to coordinate documents, work with other trades, and identify ways to save money through careful planning.

Key course subjects in GET WIRED! 301 include:
  • How to read construction plans (blueprints)
  • Coordinating construction documents:
    • Identifying and planning for electrical work on construction plan sheet types
    • Underground utilities locator and coordinating with local utility companies
    • Parallel conductors, sizing secondary conductors and conduits and sizing grounding electrode conductors
    • Working clearances, services and meter types
  • Exterior Lighting
    • Scheduling Labor and materials

A 2020 NEC book, a set of digital blueprints and a digital student resource booklet are required for this course.

The digital blueprints and the student resource booklet, pre-loaded on a mobile tablet, are included in the cost of the tuition. The tablet with blueprints and the student resource booklet are used for both the Blueprint Reading Part 1 and Part 2 (GET WIRED! 301 and 302) courses, as well as GET WIRED! 303.

WECA provides this mobile tablet, pre-loaded with the digital blueprints and the student resource booklet, to enhance your educational experience by allowing you to view and interact with the blueprints on this mobile device, just as many electricians now do in the field, while simultaneously following along with the instructor-led webcast on your primary computer.

One tablet is provided per student. The tablet is included in course tuition and is the student’s to keep. Students who plan to take GET WIRED! 302 should retain the blueprint and booklet files on the tablet for use with that course. Additional tablets beyond the one included in course tuition may be purchased from WECA at a competitive price—contact WECA client services for current pricing. The tablet will be mailed one week prior to the start of class; ensure that WECA has your current mailing address.

  • Total class hours available: 40.5
