WECA was honored to host San Bernardino City Councilman Damon Alexander last week at our apprenticeship training facility in Riverside, which serves the Inland Empire. In March 2020, Alexander was elected to the San Bernardino City Council and received over 65% of the votes against an incumbent Councilmember.

Representatives from WECA and the Associated General Contractors sat down with Councilman Alexander to discuss workforce development, public works projects, and apprenticeship opportunities. WECA and AGC highlighted the great opportunities that apprenticeship can provide his constituents, and also discussed how beneficial it can be for young adults to avoid beginning adulthood saddled with school loans and debts for years to come. We also talked about some of the discrimination and cost increases involved with Project Labor Agreements and pointed out Riverside Unified School District’s recent $30 million cost overrun on just one construction project!

WECA and AGC want to thank Councilman Alexander for taking time out of his busy schedule to learn more about our member contractors, apprentices, and students during his busy Thanksgiving week - especially considering that Councilman Alexander's wife is the founder of the San Bernardino Turkey Trot 5k/10k run.
