WECA Arizona joined more than 60 sponsors at the Southern Arizona Construction Career Days in Tucson, held in conjunction with National Apprenticeship Week 2023.
More than 3,800 middle school and high school students from across the state of Arizona immersed themselves in aspects of the various building trades serving Arizona.
Joining WECA at our booth was WECA Arizona Member Contractor Mountain Power Electrical Contractor Inc., who helped us greet and connect with potential future tradespeople. Additionally, Mountain Power had one electrician -- who had previously completed an electrical apprenticeship -- at the booth per day to explain the benefits of undertaking a formal apprenticeship program, and to share with attendees how doing so had beneficially impacted their own careers.
"This was an opportunity to plant seeds for the future as the construction industry looks to tomorrow's workforce," says Heath Anderson, the Outreach and Workforce Development Specialist for WECA Arizona. "The volume of young people stopping by our booth kept all of us busy, and having a Mountain Power electrician on hand each day gave a great perspective to those with questions about their career opportunities. We deeply appreciated the partnership in helping to make a great event for all."
Thank you, Southern Arizona Construction Career Days for having us, and thank you Mountain Power for teaming up with us to inspire future electricians to pursue electrical industry careers in Arizona!
WECA Arizona Outreach & Workforce Development Specialist Heath Anderson and representatives of WECA Member Contractor Mountain Power Electrical Contractor Inc. get ready to talk about electrical careers with interested students.
