Dear WECA Community,

It's been a long journey, but we're happy to announce that WECA's Rancho Cordova headquarters is again serving walk-in visitors. All of our facilities have resumed in-person apprenticeship classes, but office services are only available in Rancho Cordova. Please also feel welcome to call us at 1-877-444-9322 or email us as you usually would.

The health and safety of our apprentices, students, staff, members, and greater community are top concerns at WECA, and we contine to closely watch news and recommendations from the CDC and state and local authorities. We have taken measures to ensure that WECA continues to serve its educational mission with a minimum of disruption, while also prioritizing health and safety. The situation around COVID-19 contines to evolve and WECA's class delivery plans are subject to further modifications based upon subsequent advice from authorities.

Please follow WECA's communications closely and check back to this page often for further updates, as we will do our best to rapidly communicate any further changes to you. Thank you for your patience and solidarity as we all work together to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on our community.

Sincerely,

   The WECA Team

For Apprentices and their Member Contractors

For California apprentices:

  • WECA resumed in-person Apprenticeship classes at all training facilities for classes with start dates beginning on or after June 21st, 2021.
  • Class schedules will not change.
  • WECA's in-person apprenticeship classes will be physically distanced. (WECA preemptively reduced apprenticeship class sizes on this year’s schedule in preparation for a return to in-person instruction, to facilitate this.)
  • Class welcome packets will be sent out with at least 45 days' notice.
  • Apprentices, Instructors and Staff will be required to wear masks indoors if unvaccinated and complete a daily health questionnaire prior to entering the building. (This will also apply to any visitors to our training facilities.)
  • WECA continues to monitor CDC and State Guidelines and will update safety protocols as appropriate.
  • All communications from WECA are digital or phone-based at this time; we are not sending physical letters.

● California Certification Testing: As of May 1, 2020, PSI has reopened several of its testing sites across California for limited testing. Keep in mind as you schedule your exam appointment that available windows may be limited, so if you're ready to take the exam, don't delay in securing your appointment. In addition, the State of California confirms that it is actively processing certification applications.

For Arizona apprentices:

  • Please review your enrollment communications for class scheduling details.

For Electrician Trainees, Journeyman Continuing Education and General Students, and their Contractors

Please review the information below for changes to upcoming onsite lab scheduling and in-person classroom courses, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The good news for Trainees and Journeyperson continuing education students enrolled in our programs is that most of our class delivery has always been online. Online classes will continue to be delivered as scheduled with no interruption, including all evening GetWired classes. Alternate arrangements are offered for onsite lab days; please read below for details specific to your course.

All communications from WECA are digital or phone-based at this time; we are not sending physical letters.

For those students enrolled in a GetWired class with a lab date from July 1, 2021 through September 30, 2021:

  •  7/9/2021 Update: Saturday labs scheduled to start August 7th – September 18th have been transitioned from online to in-person labs for GetWired 102, 103, 104, 201, 202, 203, 204, and 302.
    • Emails have also been sent to enrolled students with the lab day details. If you are enrolled in one of the GetWired classes shown above with a Saturday lab date between August 7th – September 18th, please make sure you review your recent communications from WECA for your specific lab details and attend your onsite class day. Labs will be delivered onsite only for these classes.
    • To view your onsite lab day details, you may also log into https://www.goweca.com/login.aspx and look for “Upcoming Classes and Required Items.”
    • GetWired 101 and 301 labs remain online.
    • Otherwise, your lab will initially be scheduled to be conducted entirely online.
    • WECA will send you confirmation of your login instructions for your online lab.
    • However, WECA is closely monitoring developments and California state restrictions as the COVID situation progresses. If the situation improves such that we are able to serve some or all of these labs in our traditional hands-on format during Session 3 (July-September 2021), we will transition those lab events back to in-person experiences at our training facilities.
    • If the lab in which you are enrolled in Session 3 becomes possible to deliver in-person, you will be given at least four weeks of notice of your change in lab venue to a WECA training facility.
    • Your lab date will remain identical. Your lab time may shift from afternoon to morning, or vice versa. Please watch your email for further details.

For those students enrolled in a GetWired class with a lab date after October 1, 2021:

  • If your class includes a hands-on lab, it will automatically be scheduled as an onsite, in-person experience.

For those students interested in Classroom-based Two Day Exam Prep, these classes have been cancelled until further notice. However, our Live Online Two Day Exam Prep class is available for enrollment! It's the same curriculum; just delivered in an online classroom instead.

  • WECA is not running the classroom-based Two Day Exam Prep class instances until further notice.
  • WECA's Live Online Two Day Exam Prep is now available on a monthly basis. Scheduled over two subsequent Saturdays, a live instructor leads students through our popular Two Day Exam Prep course experience over Zoom in this 16 hour class.
  • You may prefer to take an upcoming GetWired 404 Exam Prep instance. GetWired 404 is also entirely online and instructor-led, but delves even more deeply into preparation for the State certification exam over 42 hours.
  • You may also prefer to study on your own time and pace, online, with our 24 Hour Self-Paced General/Residential Exam Prep course.

For those students interested in Basic Motor Controls:.

  • WECA has resumed safely-distanced, in-person instances (in Rancho Cordova and San Diego) of Basic Motor Controls Part 1and 2. Please check our course catalog for enrollment options.
