It’s Women in Construction Week, and we’re celebrating accordingly here at WECA by featuring the awesome female Apprentices we have in our programs – like first-year commercial Apprentice Lacey Sanders!

Sanders – based at WECA’s Riverside training facility and employed by WECA Member Contractor Helix Electric – credits her son with inspiring her to join the electrical trades.

“I was looking for a career path that would let me provide for my son and show him that you can do anything that you set your mind to. As long as you work hard, you can accomplish anything,” said Sanders.

But Sanders says that she was always interested in the electrical field, anyway.

“I have always thought that it was very interesting,” said Sanders. “You bring life to a building when you power it up with electricity.”

And with WECA, Sanders is well on her way to accomplishing great things and building the life that she’s always dreamed of.

“It has been great for me so far [being a woman in the electrical industry]. Everyone has been very supportive and willing to help me learn. And I think it has all been interesting, but I enjoy seeing how the panels are put together. I chose commercial electrical because I want to learn it all,” said Sanders.

Sanders also heaped praise on WECA, specifically, stating that “having a young son, I needed a program that would fit his schedule and I have heard nothing but good things about WECA – I’ve been told that the passing rate [for the Apprenticeship programs] is higher at WECA.”

Thank you for the praise, Lacey! We are thrilled that you chose to learn the trades with WECA, and that it fits perfectly into your lifestyle. And, we eagerly look forward to seeing everything that you accomplish!
